Montessori education was founded around 1900 in Italy by Dr. Maria Montessori. In a Montessori environment children learn the value of independence enabling them make the right decisions and seeking knowledge by themselves. Also, they learn to support and help each other which builds a sense of responsibility. The curriculum focuses on child’s development rather than learning. Children learn with materials and techniques that forms a pattern that children carryover naturally to reading, writing and mathematics.
In my care, each child is valued as a unique individual. They are free to learn at their own pace, advancing through the curriculum as the child is ready, guided by the teacher. Self-correction and self-assessment are an integral part of the curriculum.
